I began playing pickleball at the start of the year to learn something new and live a healthier lifestyle. Having a tennis background was helpful, but I had to adjust to all the nuances of pickleball. It definitely is an easy game to play, but difficult to master. I grinded my way through intro and beginner-level classes, took private lessons, practiced with small groups and participated in recreational and open plays, and competed in match plays, leagues, and local tournaments.
I started playing at my local indoor club, Pickle & Chill, then transitioned outdoors playing at Fancyburg, Thompson, and several other parks in Columbus. Eventually, I found myself playing at other indoor and outdoor facilities across Ohio and beyond. I’ve also met a lot of great people from playing and have established myself in a number of pickleball social communities. Within my first 9 months of playing and at the age of 51, I played in my first professional tournament event and won my first professional match in Chicago.
Since then, I have added becoming a certified PPR pickleball instructor and DUPR coach to my resume. I also have partnered with the City of Upper Arlington to provide pickleball programming, plus joining Swim & Racquet Club as their pickleball teaching pro and coordinator.
I document my entire pickleball journey on my website and social media which I started in July 2024. I’m also excited to grow this website and create my YouTube channel with additional pickleball coaching content (tips, strategies, practices, etc.)
Though I don't play competitively as of late, I have been enjoying my pickleball time giving back to the community and teaching other players who are just starting out and helping develop existing player’s skills.
